Hair Loss In A Woman: What Causes It?

Hair loss in a woman can be caused by many different things. Stress is one such example - you can lose a large amount of hair about three or four months after you have an illness or major surgery. The stress of the illness in this case causes the hair loss and is usually temporary, the hair growth will return again. It is to as easy to identify and solve other causes of hair loss.


 Hormones

 In females sometimes hormonal problems can cause hair loss. Your hair may possibly fall out if your thyroid gland is overactive or under active. Hair loss can be helped by treating the thyroid disease. If the female and male hormones known as androgens and estrogens are not in balance it can also cause hair loss in a woman. To stop the hair loss you may get help by correcting the hormone imbalance.

 About three months after a woman has a baby they can have hair loss. This is caused by the hormone factor since during pregnancy the hormones keep hair that you would normally lose. The hair won't that won't fall out before pregnancy will now fall out once the hormone levels return to normal and the cycle of hair growth and loss will return to normal.


 Medications

 Hair loss in a woman may also be caused by certain medications. When you stop taking the medications causing the problem your hair loss will improve. Blood thinners, medicines used for gout, medicines used in chemotherapy, too much Vitamin A, birth control pills and antidepressants are some of the medicines that can cause hair loss in a woman.  Hair loss in a woman can also be caused by certain infections. Hair loss in children also occurs with fungal infections of the scalp. Antifungal medications are an easy way to treat the infection and promote hair growth to reappear.


 Diseases

 An underlying disease such as lupus or diabetes can also be the cause of hair loss in a woman. It is important to find the cause so that you can get back to your normal head of hair since hair loss will often be an early sign of disease. Many of the problems are treatable or cure themselves in their own time when it comes to hair loss in a woman. You don't have to worry if you have been pregnant and are losing your hair. The normal process of shedding occurs when your body is getting back to normal. It could be an underlying disease however if you have no real reason to be losing your hair and to stop the hair loss the disease will need to be corrected.
